Between River & Hill

Melody Hill is a country estate set in a secluded pecan-nut orchard, on the banks of the Magalies River. Nestled in a beautiful valley teaming with birds and indigenous plant life. Home to Nag-apies, Porcupines, Vervet Monkeys and Hornbills. In summer the Pecan trees create a lush green forest canopy. Loosing their leaves in winter, the sunlight streams in with views of the surrounding hillsides. Spring and autumn offer all of their wonderful colours.

Melody Hill is a beautiful setting for retreats, functions and private getaways. The clasical French style farmhouses have been transformed into spacious villas surrounded by nature. The four venues (a large villa, a smaller villa and two cottages), can be booked seperately or used in conjunction. Our grounds include a studio, swimming pool, labyrinth, river, orchard, dam, vegetable gardens, bonfires, lawns and access to a mountainside nature walk.

Just an hour away from Johannesburg, Melody Hill is a popular getaway - your home away from home. Come and experience a unique setting in harmony with its stunning environment!

Our Location

Our Surroundings

MHR has a good 30-45 minute walk, up the koppie (nature preserve hill) just across the road. The well marked footpath takes you up to top of the hill looking out over the Magalies valley. At the bottom of the property is the Magalies riuver with a wide bank and beautiful big trees, perfect for strolling or picnicing.

The beauty of the Magalies lies in its unique biome of indigenous plants, animals, birds and trees. Expect to see vervet monkeys, hornbills, kingfishers and hear porcupines scuttling about at night. The transformation from Summer (tropical, luscious and green) to Winter (golden grass, bare trees giving way to long views and sunsets) makes it feel like there are 2 different versions of MHR - we can never seem to decide which we love more.

Magaliesburg has a variety of activities and adventures, from hikes, cycling/running trails, game drives, balloon rides, historical sites, markets, restaurants and breweries.

There is a decently stocked Super Spar (grocery store) in Magaliesburg town - 10 minutes away.

Lanseria Airport: 40mins | OR Tambo: 1hr 30mins

Catering

Our chef Cleo is an expert in vegetarian cuisine, with a wide range of signature dishes that guests of MHR have come to know and love. Catering is only available for groups of 10 or more. We also offer catering for a variety of other dietary preferences (vegan, paleo, banting, general, allergies, etc.). We can also provide catering for events, functions and retreats outside of Melody Hill, ask us for a quote.
